According to traffic data from Alexa.com, hi5 is the #1 social network in over 25 nations across Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa. According to traffic data from comScore Media Metrix, hi5 claims to be the third largest social network in the world, although there is little external evidence to back up this claim. hi5 also claims to be the #1 social network for the world's Spanish language population, and the service is available in a total of 23 languages as of April 2008 (including three dialects of Spanish).
However, the site is virtually unheard of[citation needed] in Northern America, where the market is dominated by Facebook and MySpace.
There are indications that this social networking site uses spammers to attract new users. Several users have reported that after opening a new account, hi5 will send invitations to everyone in their email contacts list. A quick search on Google reveals numerous reports of spam being received in relation to this service. [5] This claim is based on the fact that the website's registration process will send these invitations by default and the user must explicitly opt-out of this process. The massive amount of invites being sent out by the system as users register and forget to opt out can be construed by some as "spam".
